Extra Homework
In addition to the daily homework, there are other activities that students can do when they have time at home. Extra educational activities will benefit all students. Here are a few suggestions:
- Practice recalling basic addition and subtraction facts striving to achieve speedy recall.
- Practice skip counting by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 in preparation for learning multiplication facts.
- Practice telling time.
- Practice working with money.
- Read. Focus on improving your fluency including speed, accuracy, smoothness, and expression.
- After reading a fiction story of your choosing, identify the story elements: setting, characters, problem, solution, main events. Additional reading responses can focus on your opinion of the text or your opinion of the characters' actions.
- After reading a non-fiction story of your choosing, make a list of information you learned from reading the text.
- After reading a fiction or non-fiction text, write a summary of what you read.
- Gather a collection of up to ten words and write them in alphabetical order. Students have a list of their word work words that they can use for this activity.
- Study word work words.
- Keep a writing journal that includes possible topics, your opinions/thoughts, information you learned, and descriptions of your experiences.
